Conservation Education Scholarships

In the spring of 2009, the Will-South Cook Soil and Water Conservation District will again be awarding three $1000.00 scholarships to Will-South Cook County students, who expect to major in agriculture or a natural resource field, at any accredited college or accredited school of higher learning. 

The purpose of the scholarships is to further the cause of soil, water and natural resources conservation by helping a deserving student pursue the subject at an advanced educational level. 

Application forms may be picked up at the local high school guidance offices in Will and South Cook Counties, and are also available at the District office located at 1201 S. Gougar Road, New Lenox, Illinois  60451. The application form may be picked up during normal business hours of 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. or the application can be sent by request by calling (815) 462-3106, extension 3. Application forms are also available on-line.

DEADLINE: To be considered, the completed application form must be submitted by February 1st, 2009. The letters of recommendation, which are to be sent directly to the District by their writers, must also be received by February 1st, 2009.

 APPLICATION GUIDELINES

bulletApplicant must live within the boundaries of the District (i.e. in Will County or in South Cook County, south of 22nd Street).  Please see the map at the District office if in doubt.
bulletApplicant must be a high school senior or graduate (diploma or GED certificate).
bulletApplicant must attend an accredited college or accredited school of higher learning in the 2009/2010 school year.
bulletApplicant will be expected to be interested in environmental science, horticulture, wildlife, soil, water, or other natural resources.
bulletThere is no requirement to substantiate financial need.
bulletSuccessful candidates will be announced in May.  The decision of the Will-South Cook Soil and Water Conservation District’s Board of Directors will be final.
bulletScholarship money will be paid directly to the institution for the second term of the 2009/2010 school year.
bulletIt is the recipient’s responsibility to inform the District on the details of how to make the scholarship payment.
bulletIncomplete applications may be disqualified.
